School trip- March 2026
Key Stage One's trip to Hatton Country World was a huge success. The children had a great time and did not want to leave! During their visit, the children spent time learning about different animals and had the chance to hold some guinea pigs. They were very excited about their time at Hatton, with their highlights being seeing the new born lambs and holding the guinea pigs. Some of the children were very brave and took the chance to experience the large drop slides at the indoor play area.
English
In our English lessons, we aim to develop children's confidence, creativity and understanding of language through engaging and exciting books.
Our Learning Approach
We focus on a different books, Year 1 focus on a different text every week and Year 2 focus on a text every two weeks. The texts give children the opportunity to explore a variety of stories, characters, settings and themes. Each book provides a meaningful and exciting starting point for our English learning.
Sentence Structure and Grammar
A key focus of our English lessons is helping children understand how sentences are constructed. We explore different sentence structures and develop children's knowledge of grammar, encouraging them to think carefully about how they use words to communicate their ideas.
Through a range of activities, children learn to write sentences that are clear, interesting and increasingly detailed. We encourage them to experiment with vocabulary, punctuation and sentence types to make their writing more effective.
Learning Through Books
By using high-quality texts as inspiration, children can see how authors use language and grammar to bring their writing to life. They then have opportunities to apply these skills in their own writing.
Our aim is to nurture enthusiastic, imaginative and confident writers who can express their ideas clearly and creatively.
Mathematics
In Maths the children have been looking at number and will continue to during the Spring term.
In Year 1 the children will be looking at the composition of numbers the children will look at number and how they can be made up of smaller parts, focusing on numbers 0-10, while building the foundational addition and subtraction skills, and beginning to master number pairs to 10.

The children will learn to skip counts as repeated addition and multiplication facts, using visual aids like number lines, arrays, and real-life objects and that link counting patterns to multiplication, word problems and building foundational knowledge for the 2, 5, and 10 times tables.
