Phonics Activities - Week 2

Year 1

These are some Phonics Games that you can play with your child. We have put some examples of words and sentences you could use. These have been arranged into your child's Phonic Groups. You can also get your child to write their own words and sentences for the games. We do hope you find these games helpful and fun.

Phonics Disco

This is a game you can play which is like musical statues but when the music they have to write down a word/sentence that you call out. You could also get your child/children to write the words/sentences beforehand on separate pieces of paper and put them in the middle of the room. They then dance around and when the music stops they have to pick up a word and read it.

Bottle Spin

You can read some words/sentences out for your child to write down on separate pieces of paper. You can then put them into a circle with a bottle in the middle. Your child then spins the bottle in the centre. The word that the bottle points to is the word that your child reads, if they get it right they get to keep.

Hoop Throw

You can put the words/sentence into hulu hoops (if you have not go hulu hoops you can put them in different areas on the ground) The children then stand back and throw a beanbag (if you have not got a bean bag then you can use a ball). They then read a word/sentence from the hoop their beanbag lands in, different hoops will give them a different score. What is the highest score your child can get?
